I LOVE Mykonos. It was one of the first European beaches I ever visited when I first travelled abroad 11 years ago. Crazy how time flies! I must say, it has changed a lot since I was here last, back then I was back packing too which says enough. But I loved it then and I love it even more now.

My husband and I needed a little August sun (not that the London summer was anything to complain about) so we decided to book a very last minute trip to Mykonos! We came to Mykonos for the first time together ourselves last year and stayed at Grace Hotel which is closer towards Mykonos Town. I loved Grace Hotel, it was very small and boutique and they served champagne for breakfast! However, I’m a big fan of trying out new places to stay each time I travel. I like to get a better feel and sense of the place so I always try to book somewhere new. Mykonos has become extremely popular over the last few years, so there was no shortage of amazing hotels to choose from.

For the first four nights we stayed at Kirini in Ornos. We decided to stay a bit further south from Mykonos town, as we wanted to try a new area, also Mykonos can be extremely windy so we thought the further south we go the more protected it would be. The views are utterly breathtaking and the hotel itself is very quiet. They have three pools and access to the ocean. We hardly saw any other couples during our stay here except at breakfast time. It is a very beautiful and romantic spot. Maybe little too quiet in the evenings as we tend to like a bit of atmosphere and buzz. But it was the perfect place to fully unwind, recharge and relax.

Dinnertime with a breathtaking sea view

Greek breakfasts are my absolute favourite. They make everything on the island from the yoghurt to the honey and baked goods. Also they serve it all day. For those lazy mornings. Breakfast after midday, ideal!

We love to hire a car whenever we go on holiday. We like making the holiday feel like an adventure as soon as we step off the plane. Driving around Mykonos can be a little bit hairy as the roads are not very well maintained and the drivers are impatient. But it all adds to the colour and movement of the place.

Hippie Fish is definitely a place to unwind and laze about ALL day. We came here for a drink and to watch the sunset before dinner. Great place to stop for a sundowner and yes, they make margaritas!!!

After five fabulous nights at Kirini we left and moved further round the island to the Myconian Ambassdor Hotel
