Alexandra Rebel Waite, designer of the London based shirt brand Rebel Waite discusses inspiration, what to look for in the perfect shirt and what’s next for the brand.
Waite founded the label in 2013, having been influenced by her birth place of Melbourne, Australia and her time living around the world. Seeing a segment in the market for luxurious every day wear for all occasions to take the wearer from desk to dinner, poolside to party. Rebel Waite was born with the aim to take the classic shirt staple and add a fresh and unique twist to suit today’s sophisticated woman.
“I have set out to design the perfect shirt edit and change the perception of the simple shirt. I wanted to create sexy, chic, cool shirts and blouses for every woman’s wardrobe.”
Alexandra Rebel Waite: I worked in fashion and retail for a long time and noticed there was no one stop destination for well made high quality women’s shirts and blouses. I found women were crying out for versatile pieces that could be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. I have set out to change the perception of the simple shirt and wanted to create the perfect shirt edit.
Which piece is your favourite and why?
Alexandra Rebel Waite: Quality and comfort are critical. I think the perfect shirt needs to be versatile and luxurious, women want to feel special even when dressing for everyday and what suits their lifestyle. Unlike other brands we don’t just make shirts for the office, but aim to be the complete solution for any occasion – whether that be at the office, the beach, or a night out. You pick and wear one of the Rebel Waite shirts to fit multiple occasions – versatility is key and being able to wear the shirts effortlessly with ease is what we’re about. All of our shirts are made from the highest quality fabrics, and crafted by our skilled tailors in the UK.
What’s next for the brand?
Alexandra Rebel Waite: I would love to expand and naturally grow, I have lots of interesting and unique new designs that I want to bring through soon, but I will always stay true to our core: high quality shirts and blouses handmade in the UK.
Where do you like to shop?
Alexandra Rebel Waite: I like to browse the London vintage markets and make a visit to Columbia Road on a Sunday, but I mostly love to shop in independent boutiques. Melbourne is great for new and up and coming designers.
What’s your favourite food?
Alexandra Rebel Waite: I love food. When I go out I love to eat food I can’t cook at home – Japanese is one of my favourites! However I also love to bake…… stay tuned for the recipe.
Where’s your ultimate holiday destination?
Alexandra Rebel Waite: I love London but I’m an Aussie girl at heart and am happiest when on the beach.
